  • Increased. Prize money for Fufa’s 10 Competitions was in January 2018 increased from Shs20m to Shs426m, with the Premier League taking a lion’s share of Shs128m.

Continental and Uganda Cup shortcomings notwithstanding, it was a happy KCCA family in the end as the new StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) champions were crowned for the 13th time at Lugogo on Saturday.

You could not have asked for better value than a 6-1 dismissal of Maroons. This title was especially special as it was manager Mike Mutebi’s third in four years, and it closed the gap to 16-time champions, SC Villa, to just three.

Their 13th, also fifth in seven years, is testament that Mutebi’s vow to dominate Ugandan football for the next 10 years as he was unveiled in 2015, was actually in fine motion.

It also marks the first time KCCA are eating into Fufa’s expanded basket, a basket from which Vipers ate last season.

At the time, Fufa president Moses Magogo defended the gap between champions and the second saying “It should inspire the second to finish first. We reward excellence,” he said.

KCCA chairman Aggrey Ashaba confirmed to Daily Monitor the club have received their prize monies from all competitions in the last three years.” There are no arrears,” he said.

Fufa spokesperson Ahmed Hussein also said no club is owed.
“All prize monies for the 2017/2018 season was paid to the clubs that featured in the top flight league,” he said.
