The prospect of seeking the club’s first victory over Mbarara City at Kakyeka Stadium this afternoon is a delicate one that KCCA must conjure without their chief source of assists – Mustapha Kizza.
Boasting of seven assists and three goals this season, Kizza is out of the clash against revived Mbarara City which will grant either Hassan Musana and Herbert Achai a rare look in while depriving the spectators a one on one confrontation with former KCCA attacking winger Paul Mucureezi.
“I’m still nursing an ankle injury but I believe we can beat Mbarara City and continue to close the gap at the top,” Kizza, who registered 13 assists and four goals last season, told Daily Monitor.
Mike Mutebi’s defending champions currently occupy the fourth place with 26 points from 12 matches but can go second with victory and dislodge Bul on goal difference.
Further wins over SC Villa on Friday and Proline on December 3, should also bring them within touching distance of Uganda Premier League log leaders Vipers.
KCCA has struggled in the last two visits at Kakyeka and now return to find a revitalizing side under Brian Ssenyondo that has won two games on the bounce – Onduparaka and Kyetume.
Mbarara City’s leaky defence that has shipped in 18 goals already must be wary of KCCA’s attack that at - 23 goals - ranks as the top scoring forward line in the league.
‘’We have won our two games here at Kakyeka but KCCA is not an easy team. We are confident because the boys have the right morale’’ Ssenyondo revealed. Mucureezi meanwhile believes the home advantage will be pivotal if they are to stun his former paymasters.
“We know we are going to make it because we have organized well as a team.’’ In Bombo, Sam Ssimbwa’s URA is expected to halt their lackadaisical display when they take on basement occupants Proline.
