A youthful and fresh looking Vipers SC may have seized the initiative in the race to win this season’s Pilsner Super 8 tourney with a 1-0 triumph over Proline yesterday but it was the Lugogo-based side that exhibited more zeal and composure.
It was a game of few chances that had Vipers take the lead on 24 minutes through an unfortunate clumsy decision by Proline custodian Hassan Matovu that granted striker Denis Mwemwezi a chance to pounce and duly convert.

There was clear effect of the ongoing player and coaches reshuffle at Vipers as Edward Golola’s side tried to string passes in the midfield and initiate attacks to partial success.
Proline, gearing up for the Caf Confederations Cup against Malawi’s Master Security Services mid this month, looked Vipers in the face and seemed to have all the answers to the complex questions that the Venoms posed, especially in the midfield.
Vipers rookie Karim Wantambala formed rings around Proline midfielders Ibrahim Wammanah, Noordin Bunjo and Arnold Sserunjogi before he was substituted late on in the match. He scooped the Man of the Match accolade.

“I am happy the boys played according to the instructions but still lack in transition and converting the chances created,” Golola told Daily Monitor after the match played at StarTimes Stadium yesterday.
Vipers featured new faces like Watambala, Henry Kitegenyi, Mwemezi and returning Siraje Ssentamu, largely portraying the paradigm shift the club is embracing in the post Michael Nam Ouma era.
“We have learned a lot from this match especially on the improvement in the midfield and defence. We would have done better if we had our two players that are with the Cranes (Bright Anukani and Mustapha Mujjuzi),” Proline coach Shafiq Bisaso said.

Vipers head to the semifinals whereas Proline will head to the classification path. Tomorrow URA visit Mbarara City at Kakyeka while Tooro United will travel Arua to play Onduparaka. Holders KCCA will face new top flight league entrants Wakiso Giants on Tuesday at Wakisha Stadium in Wakiso.
