Kampala. Of the 16 remaining teams in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, only three have lifted the trophy before.
10-time winners Express, the last season’s losing finalists (also 2016 victors) Vipers and URA, who boast of three titles, remain in contention for the right to represent Uganda in the second-tier Caf Confederation Cup next season.

The opening game of the round pits unbeaten Big League side Wakiso Giants against Tooro United in a tie that will be decided at Bugembe Stadium.
Wakiso Giants saw off struggling Kireka United on penalties after a 2-2 draw while Tooro eliminated holder KCCA. Ibrahim Kirya, Wakiso’s coach, is keen on improving his side’s efficiency by eliminating a giant.
“We have all it takes to surprise them and progress,” Kirya said.

So far, striker Norman Ogik has given himself a good account since joining from Police with two goals in as many games. Yet Wasswa Bbossa’s side must overcome cold feet on the road. Despite a solid performance at Buhinga game, they have won just once in nine away games, scoring four times.

The pick of the round will be the game between Express and Police on Monday. Express parted ways with coach Kisala after losing 2-0 against Police early this month yet they struggled to eliminate minnows Water.
The only likely banana skin will be Saturday’s tie between Vipers and Kiboga Young at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
