South African energy firm, Eskom has shuffled it’s leadership for its Ugandan interests retiring its former board chair for the Kampala operations Mr Les Carlo who has been replaced by the former Senior General Manager in charge of Southern African, Scheppers Segomoco.

The changes come as the firm faces increasing questions about its delivery in line with the terms of its Ugandan concession at Electricity generation at the main power dam, Nalubale and Kiira in Jinja. The firm was subjected to intense questioning by the Parliamentary committee on energy in the last few weeks.

Mr Segomoco, is expected to bring some new level of stability and back up support to the management team here.
“The outgoing Chairman has a lot of experience in managing the contractual agreement while the incoming one understands Africa well, having worked in Southern African countries,” said Ms Nokwanda Mngeni, the chief executive officer of Eskom Uganda when asked about the changes.

In an interview with Mr Segomoco on Friday, he said his first task will be to look at the concession agreement and improve where there are loopholes. He is also looking at growing power output by at least 50 per cent in the next three years.

“For the most part of last year, Eskom generated more than its required target by 40MW and it did not charge any coin for that,” Ms Mngeni said, as if to confirm one of Mr Carlo achievement.
