Stylish menu, different food

Delicacy. The menu at Diner’s Cafe in Nakulabye excludes what is listed.

What you need to know:

  • Nowadays, one need not have much experience to come up with menu ideas.

Diners Café is one of those joints that is strategically located in a new building and all in all should be a welcome addition to the Nakulabye dining scene. Sadly, all is not well at Diners Café and it would appear that since they opened they seem to have let down their guard. Recently, we chanced to drop by and at first glance one would expect reasonably good service with quality food in a trendy environment.

Service
For starters, we were quite put off by the slovenly helper who also doubled as the cashier and presumably, a cook.
Casually dressed in slacks and sandals, she was quite an eyesore to behold. After what appeared to be a considerable wait, she managed to come up with a worn out and threadbare like menu come table mat that had seen better days. By the look of things, this was the only menu in existence. Admittedly, the menu reads better that what was available to order. I am inclined to believe that whoever came up with the menu suggestions was a chef of some experience, but alas Diners Café failed to live up to its expectations.

Menu
Nowadays, one need not have much experience to come up with menu ideas. The internet is readily available and all that one needs is to Google the word ‘menu’ and voila When people come up with ideas for menus, it is of paramount importance that they consider the availability of whatever they are offering as well as the practicality of having some items such as pepper steak or hash brown potatoes to mention a couple of items. Such aforementioned food items are the kind that one would expect to feature in a high end café such as Cafésserie or Café Javas.
Given, certainly not the type of fare to be offered at Diners Cafe it was apparent from the outset that they could not live up to such high expectations.

Verdict
It is sad commentary when everything on the a la carte menu is unavailable and to say the least unforgivable. The a la carte menu for such a place should be limited and whatever items are listed should never be out of stock.
However, what seems to be the stock in trade of this place is the local food such as boiled beef stew, katogo, beans, matooke. Nakulabye is the kind of area that is more suited for this genre of food, but all that was available was chicken and chips.
