72-year-old elected NRM flag bearer

Defying age. Ms Freda Kase Mubanda is contesting for the Masaka District Woman Parliamentary seat.

Masaka. NRM supporters in Masaka District have elected 72-year-old Freda Nanziri Kase Mubanda as the party flag bearer for District Woman representative in the 2016 parliamentary elections.
Ms Mubanda garnered 22,418 votes to defeat her rival Ms Joanita Nalule who got 631 votes. Former Sembabule District chairman, Herman Ssentongo will hold the NRM flag for the Masaka Municipality parliamentary seat. Mr Ssentongo polled 3,754 votes against his opponent Maria Nakalanzi Jjuko Kasiita, who got 868 votes.

In the Bukoto East Member of Parliament race, Dr Abudul Nkoyoyo won with 9,137 votes while his rival Phoebe Kyewalyanga, the Masaka District speaker, got 2,241 votes. Mr Moses Ssebugwawo and Mr kizito Nsubuga polled 432 and 1,380 votes respectively. Masaka businessman Gorge William Kalumba won the Masaka NRM mayoral race flag after beating his rival Hajj Badru Namuyimba with 3,093 against Namuyimba’s 1,259 votes.

Masaka District chairpersonJoseph Kalungi had by press time taken an early lead in the partial results released.
In the preliminary results, Mr Kalungi had collected 17,660 votes, while Matia Mulindwa Kagugube had 4,355 votes and former Masaka District Woman MP Sauda Namagwa Mugerwa garnered 1,746 votes.

Who is Mubanda?
She joined Parliament in 2011 and is contesting on the NRM ticket. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History at Makerere University between 1959 and 1964. She also graduated with a diploma in management in 2004 at Makerere University. She worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1964 to 1999 and with the UN between 1971 and 1999.
