Muslims to celebrate Eid-al- Adhuha tomorrow

KAMPALA: Muslims are set to celebrate Eid-al- Adhuha tomorrow (Friday) across the world which is considered by slaughtering animals and closing the year of Islamic calendar.
Talking to Daily monitor today, the Director of Sharia, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Sheikh Yahiya Ibrahim Kakungulu explained that, the last month of the Islamic calendar Dhul Hijja started on Wednesday last week which means that after fasting for nine days; Eid-al- Adhuha is celebrated on the tenth day which is tomorrow (Friday).
“I am therefore glad to inform you that this year’s Eid-al- Adhuha will be celebrated on 1st September 2017 Friday, the national Prayers will be held at the National Mosque of Uganda Muslim Supreme council Old Kampala starting at exactly 9:00 am, they will be led by His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje,”Sheikh Kakungulu said.

He added that the Sermon will be delivered by Sheik k. Imran Ssali, the National Mosque Assistant Imam.
“I urge Muslims to slaughter healthy animals during Eid-al- Adhuha days in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail (A.S) commitments as stressed in the Holy Quran, slaughtering animals take 3 days from Eid Day which they call (Ayyam -Tashreeq) and this Eid is celebrated after 70 days from Eid al-Fitr,” Sheikh Kakungulu said.
Sheikh Abubakari Kakeeto from Mutundwe mosque said that anyone who intends to do the slaughter on Eid-al- Adhuha has to follow certain rules and these include; the animal of sacrifice, the person offering the sacrifice, time of sacrifice, meat and other parts of sacrifice.
“A sheep or goat is used as a single offering and is sufficient for one household, a camel or cow can be shared by seven people, and for the age one year for a goat or a sheep, two years for a cow and five years for a camel,” Sheik Kakeeto explained.
About Eid-al-Adhuha
Eid-al-Adhuha, is a festival of Sacrifice and is celebrated by Muslims to mark the occasion when Allah (God) appeared to Ibrahim in a dream and asked him to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, to demonstrate his devotion to the Almighty.
The sacrifice ritual is a part of the celebrations to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his only son Ismail on Allah’s orders. Every financially-abled Muslim is encouraged to slaughter a goat, sheep, camel or cattle on this day, and the meat is distributed to the needy, friends and family.
