An Asian company will manufacture crash helmets in Uganda under a World Bank initiative to reduce motorcycle accident fatalities and head injuries on Uganda’s roads.

Works Minister John Nasasira made the remarks yesterday, while speaking at the launch of a decade of action on road accidents in Kampala.

He said the project will be funded by the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation in partnership with the Federation of International Automobile Foundation and the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility.

Motorcycle fatalities in the country have been increasing by 100 per cent.

In the last three years, over 1,500 people have died while 6,000 have survived with severe injuries. Most accidents are due to recklessness.
