Ssimbwa: URA will bounce back stronger in UPL

Man In Charge. Ssimbwa is intent on changing many things at URA next season

What you need to know:

  • Ssimbwa was appointed on an interim basis to replace Paul Nkata at the end of last month. The deterioration of the side, whose worst performance was a fifth place finish last season, has seen them collect the fewest points, 37 enroute to an abysmal ninth place finish.

KAMPALA. URA have endured the worst season since joining the top flight in 2012 but tactician Sam Ssimbwa, the third man in charge this season, thinks he will turn the tide.

The four-time champions finished outside the top five for the first time since their merger with Lyantonde in the 2011/12 season and will miss the newly introduced Super 8 Tournament for the top six finishers and the two directly promoted sides.

URA has good talent in their roster but according to Ssimbwa a major shake up is needed.
The first big change is for the veteran coach to sign a permanent deal. He demands to be the head of the recruitment committee.

Ssimbwa said: “Next season will be even more difficult because KCCA, Vipers, Villa and the others are already strong so we need to keep raising our game.” With Ssimbwa’s future sealed and potentially a handful of new players, they could enter next season with elevated expectations.
