Umony reckons Cecafa has revitalised his form

He at times looked the old Brian Umony at the just ended Kagame Cecafa Cup in Kigali; especially with his control before a fortunate miscue aided in selling El Merreikh and former KCC goalkeeper Salim Jamal a dummy for the equaliser.
And with his five goals ensuring he finished the club championship as the top scorer, Umony could not have asked for better preparations ahead of the 2015 Nations Cup qualifying trip to Kumasi, Ghana for next Saturday’s clash.
The journey-man from KCC, SuperSport United, Pretoria Tuks, Portland Timbers, Binh Duong, Azam and back to KCC in a space of three years has struggled to add to his nine Cranes goals despite being involved in the two pre-qualifying games against Mauritania but believes the returns in Kigali have him back on track.
Right tract
“I’m on the right track I would say in terms of what I want to go on and achieve,” the dreadlocked Umony tells Saturday Monitor.
“Obviously with these games coming against Ghana and other qualifiers, it (the five goals) is a confidence boost.”
Yet despite the Kigali exploits, Umony still somewhat struggled in application as seen with the several wasted chances.
“Of course there is still a lot to be done on my part. I need to be clinical enough in terms of finishing and some bits of fitness. There is definitely still work to do.”
And fast. Ghana should first test the progress. “There is no doubt that Ghana is a big force on the African continent and have very good players but personally, the focus should be on me; am I getting ready, am I putting myself in a place whereby I will can be chosen to play, am I putting myself in a position whereby I can start.
“So I’m not going to stop working towards that. The goal of course is to help the team do well.” The top two from the seven groups automatically qualify with the best third-placed team joining hosts to complete the 16-nation festival.
