Drab affair as Nyamityobora, URA play out goalless draw

KAMPALA- For long spells, this was as bad a game as the statistics suggested it would be.

Nyamityobora were enduring a purple patch having garnered just three points from a possible 12 whilst URA seems to have forgotten how to win games.

The tax collectors have won just twice and although they have not lost, they have drawn the other four games now.

The ‘bad numbers’ were exacerbated by a last minute decision to restrain all players without National ID cards, which left Nyamityobora short of three starters while URA lost two.

Goals always appeared a long shot, with the only three chances of note in a dismal first half fell URA’s way. The most open chance fell to Saidi Kyeyune, who skewed an open chance in the 15th minute when he hit the woodwork. Nyamityobora had only scored five goals and their own goal threat here was non-existent.

With little entertainment on offer, the handful of spectators alternated by discussing any subject ranging from politics to sports.
URA continued to press for an unlikely breakthrough in the second half. Nyamityobora goalie Hillary Jomi came to their rescue when he stopped Shafiq Kagimu’s penalty in the 86th minute.

Thin chances
But an improved Nyamityobora had chances of their own with Patrick Gonahasa’s goal-bound shot deflected for a corner in the 60th minute while Charles Musiige squandered the best chance failing to convert a free ball from Patrick Mbowa’s back pass.

Nyamityobora coach, James Odoch, was happy with the point after the team got their first clean sheet.

“I am happy that the game went to plan. We still need to build character and a point against a big team like URA is welcome,” Odoch said.
His opposite, Sam Ssimbwa, decried his team’s lack of character.

“I am disappointed with my players because we had all the chances to win yet the players were not up to the task,” Ssimbwa noted.
