Archbishop Ntagali cautions parents against child abuse

KAMPALA-The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali has urged parents and religious leaders to uphold and advocate for the rights of children because they are the country’s future.

 “As religious leaders, let’s play our role and continue advocating for the children’s rights because many are still abused by their parents because the policy exists but not implemented,” Archbishop

Ntagali said.

Archbishop Ntagali said that in 2019 Church of Uganda, is a year for children because they are a blessing from the Lord.

“Play your role as a parents when you still have time because it’s better to groom our children when they are still young like now, teach them to be God fearing and respecting people and themselves,”

Archbishop Ntagali said.

The outgoing archbishop made the remarks during the dedication prayers for primary seven candidates at Kampala Parents Primary school on Thursday in where he prayed for the candidates ahead of their Primary Leaving Examinations that start on Monday.

“I call upon religious communities put in more effort in evolving the rights and well-being of children and make sure they have a bright future,” he said.

The State Minister for Lands Ms Persis Namuganza urged parents to promote girl child education because it’s the way to go, reiterated that “the government has done its part in ensuring all children go to school through universal education.”

“We are very sure that there some people who are still violating children’s right but we have finalised plans to look for culprits and go to courts of law,” she said.
